Rate design with distributed energy resources and electric vehicles: A Californian case study

The high penetration of distributed energy resources and electric vehicles is changing the way electricity system managed. In turn, utilities have been recovering their expenditures through tariffs needs reformulation. We investigate impact different retail tariff designs from a Californian scenario on private investment incentives cost-shifting using solar PVs, stationary batteries, vehicles. commercial facilities studied do not own vehicles, vehicle owners are remunerated for services provided; this remuneration strongly depends connection hours type applied. EV net income varies annually $57 to $218 per vehicle, reaching highest values when batteries present significant demand charges found that an energy-based incentivizes adoption bringing gains, but often with cost-shifting. A shift toward coincident peak in short term capacity-based long run, if cost DERs continues fall quickly, can alleviate caused by strong DER penetration. Finally, we derive policy implications results earmark more sophisticated further investigation.
